BUILD QUALITY

Built is something that we base our smartphones in today’s day and age. Be it a Smartphone valued at Rs.6,999 or a phone costing more than 40k. The HTC One M8 has created benchmark designs with their all aluminium unibody construction. In the Sony Xperia Z2 we get the complete glass treatment in front and back. The glass treatment sits on a all metal chassis which makes it the heaviest of the lot at 163 g. From the Samsung stables we have the Galaxy S5 with its all plastic build, a removable back and a weighing 145 grams makes it the lightest of the lot. The recently launched LG G3 also uses an all plastic design with brush plastic design for the rear panel which is removable.

DISPLAY

Display quality is where the LG G3 truly differentiates itself from its competitors, with a 2560 x 1440 2K QHD display which is roughly 534 ppi pixel density. As it is commonly known, that a Retina display is all you need (human eyes can’t make out pixels beyond that point). LG chose to ignore that concept completely and decided to use a 2K display for its new device. The rest of its competitors stick with tried and tested screen resolution of full HD 1080p screens. This does not in any way mean that these flagship phones displays are not good, infact they are one of the best in the market. This just means that the LG offering is better than the rest of its rivals.

MEMORY AND RAM

All phones have 16 GB of internal storage which is further expandable to 128 GB.  LG does come with two version of its phones a 16/32 GB models which will further be expandable to 128 GB via a MicroSD card. The S5 and HTC One M8 come packed with 2 GB of Ram, whereas the Xperia Z2 has 3 GB Ram onboard. The LG G3 comes with options of 2/3 GB of Ram with 16/32 GB memory respectively.

PROCESSING POWER

Barely any difference here. All the phones are evenly powered with Snapdragon 801, Quad Core processor, graphics powered by the Adreno 330. Only the Sony Xperia Z2 has the lowest clocked processor at 2.3 GHz.

CAMERA

Another major factor of differentiation, the Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a 16 megapixel camera and is the first phone to use an ISOCELL sensor, the HTC One M8 with its dual 4 megapixel camera . The new HTC One (M8) camera has the same MP size as last year, but with many additional features. The Sony Xperia Z2 supports a 20.7-megapixel camera. The Latest LG G3 sports a 13 MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization ( OIS ) and a Quick laser focus system, which claims to be razor sharp and extremely fast. This feature is usually found in DSLR cameras.

OPERATING SYSTEM

All the above phones support Android’s latest iteration Android 4.4.2 KitKat, with each manufacturer layering it off with there custom skin UI. The LG G3 boasts a new custom UI developed for the LG G3 calling it a ‘simple flat GUI’, using minimalist designs. The G3′s  interface has taken a step in the right direction and the skin overlay is not overbearing, and in fact quite smooth.

BATTERY

The Xperia Z2 comes with the largest 3200mAh battery and the One M8 gets a measly 2600mAh battery. The G3 and the S5 offer removable batteries at 3000mAh and 2800mAh, respectively. The removable battery gives additional flexibility to have a spare battery at all times and if the battery dies you can always replace it.

FINAL VERDICT

All the four phones are the best the manufacturers have to offer. The HTC One M8 has the all metal design with brushed aluminium finish that makes it a great looker, the Sony Xperia Z2 with it’s 20.7 megapixel camera makes it great for taking poster size photographs. The Samsung Galaxy S5 follows in its predecessors footsteps and retains the all plastic build quality, the TouchWiz UI is still the most functional interface providing users with hosts of options to customize there phone and make tasks simpler and more intuitive.
The LG G3 on the other hand is the first flagship phone to feature a 2K display. The camera also has an additional feature that is a Laser based focus system which allows users to focus on objects quicker and take photos easily. In the end it boils down to what which features work best for you and which one you’d like to invest your hard earned money in.
