Samsung has launched its first smartphone based on its own Tizen OS - Samsung Z . It sports a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display and is powered by a 2.3GHz Quad core processor . It is loaded with the Tizen 2.2.1 OS and supports high speed 4G LTE network connectivity . As in its flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S5 , Samsung has included fingerprint scanner and heart-rate monitoring module in the new Samsung Z .
On the design front , it looks stylish with the faux stitched-leather back panel , as is in the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 , and silver finishing on the sides and the home button . It is square in its design with hard rather than curved lines , that is it is more angular with a square design and flat top and bottom .
Regarding the new Samsung Tizen OS , it looks much similar to the Android OS with Samsung Touchwiz user interface . It has the similar top-to-down swipe quick-access notifications/settings and double press on menu brings recent apps . But what does matter the most for the success of new OS is the availability of the Apps . Currently there are very few apps available , which will change later of-course , but with app developers already busy on three platforms of Android , iOS , and Windows Phone , it is certain that most of the popular apps are not going to come soon on the Tizen platform (unless Samsung offers developers huge amounts). Also , can Samsung actually compete with the already popular smartphone OS’s with so many available Apps ? Well considering Tizen is offering nothing new which the current OS doesn’t have and it app ecosystem will take time to evolve , it seems quite tough . But what can work for this on the later stages is the huge popularity of the Samsung brand and variety of electronic products that Samsung offer . If Samsung can follow what Apple is doing now with devices connected using Homekit , HealthKit , same OS based Laptop/tablet/Desktop/Smartphones/Music-players , then there are quire high chances of people adopting the new Samsung OS and hence developer coming with apps for it . Moreover Samsung is already popular in Home Appliances and if it can include Tizen OS in them , then this whole new ecosystem will be quickly familiar to all .
